Village Hall
The Village Hall is a popular hub of our community, with many local events taking place there, including elections, Parish Council meetings, as well as many sporting and leisure activities and fundraising events. It is located on Lowestoft Road (by the junction at Covert Road â IP18 6RF).
The Hall is managed by a Management Committee who meet throughout the year and work hard to ensure it is maintained to a high standard. In late 2018, a hearing loop was installed in the Hall.Â

History of Reydon Village Hall
At the end of the Second World War, a fund for returning servicemen was set up in many towns and villages across the country. Reydon decided that, instead of making individual gifts to the returning men, a lasting legacy for the benefit of all would be to provide a new Village Hall.
A committee was formed to pursue this objective. The proposed site for the Hall was on Lowestoft Road, on land at present occupied by allotments, and was generously given by Mr P C Loftus. A body of local individuals agreed to be Trustees, and a Management Committee would control the centreâs activities.
A plan for the building was drawn up and funds were raised, with many donations given. Local residents worked so hard and looked forward to the day when they would be able to use the hall. Unfortunately, the scheme ran out of money and the skeleton of the Hall was abandoned.
In the 1960s, a public meeting was held at Reydon High School to discuss again the possibility of a Reydon Village Hall. Everyone present was enthusiastic, and felt there was a real need for a Village Hall. A committee was formed and a fund-raising event was planned every month. A village tote bought in regular weekly income. Due to a lot of willing, hardworking Reydon people, plans were advanced and the new facility was finally opened on 30th April 1977 by Mr Simon Loftus.
On 31st October 2023, Â the Hallâs Golden Anniversary Appeal Fund was launched by Simon Loftus to refurbish and re-equip the Hall in time for its 50th Anniversary in 2027. To get involved with the Village Hall management, or to donate to the Fund, please contact: reydonvillagehall@gmail.com.

Allotments
Reydon Parish Council provides allotments to rent out to Reydon residents. The plots are along the back boundary of the Recreation Ground in Cox’s Lane, Reydon. If you are interested in taking on an allotment tenancy, please contact the Parish Clerk to be added to the allotment waiting list.
Local Pathways
There are many pathways and bridle paths in the area to explore around the Heritage Coast.
Attached below is a lovely hand drawn map by a local man, Wilfrid George from Aldeburgh, showing the pathways around Reydon. The whole map with all the surrounding villages and the Blyth Valley is available from local shops.
Nature and Wildlife
Situated at the northern end of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths area of outstanding natural beauty and adjacent to the estuary of the river Blyth, Reydon is the perfect place for nature lovers.
Suffolk Wildlife Trust manages two nature reserves in Reydon; the Hen Reedbed and Reydon Wood.

Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Reserve at Minsmere
National Trust Coastal Centre and Beach at Dunwich Heath.
Parks and Play Areas
The Reydon Parish Playground can be found at the recreation ground on Cox’s Lane (IP18 6QJ). It has a fenced area for children under the age of fourteen, adult exercise equipment, swings, goalposts and a basketball hoop.
The Parish Council looks after the Recreation Ground and is always looking for ways to improve the facilities. If you have anything to suggest or report, please contact the Parish Clerk.
There is also a fenced play area for younger children in Winston Road
(IP18 6RA).
Reydon Sports & Community Centre
The new Reydon Sports & Community Centre was opened in 2022 and has replaced the former Reydon High School buildings. The school itself closed in 1990, and some of the old buildings continued to be used by local sports and community groups.
Considerable fund raising has been achieved over 25 years to complete the new building, which includes a large hall, lounge/bar area, kitchen and extensive car park. There is disabled access and toilets to ensure the facilities are accessible to everyone. The building is run by The Reydon Sports and Community Centre Management Committee, a team of local and dedicated volunteers acting on behalf of The Reydon Playing Fields Charity which owns the land and building itself.
As well as the new building, further land has been purchased to provide more sports pitches and a new large car park constructed to ensure all users are able to park on site to maintain personal and public safety.
We are proud to be a venue for the Southwold and Reydon Community Emergency Planning Group to use should the need ever arise, and we are available as an emergency evacuation point for our wonderful neighbours, Pitches View Residential Home.
The main users currently offer a range of activities covering community and sports groups. We are home to The Sole Bay United Junior Football Club, which trains most weeknight evenings and plays home fixtures on Sundays throughout the football season. The site is also able to host a wide range of other events, including village events, school activities, caravan rallies, weddings as well as commercial and business functions, due to the siteâs range of facilities, both indoor and out, and our location.

Jubilee Green
Reydon’s Village Green, Jubilee Green, was created as part of the Nightingale Place development. Located at the junction of Wangford Road and Nightingale avenue, Jubilee Green is close to The Randolph and Sole Bay Health Centre.
The Green was named Jubilee Green in 2012 to commemorate the Queenâs Diamond Jubilee. In June 2022, the Community celebrated the Queenâs Platinum Jubilee with a picnic on the Green.
Jubilee Green hosts the Annual Reydon Christmas Tree âSwitch-Onâ. This yearâs event is on 2nd December at 6pm, organised by Blyth Valley Rotary, and all the funds to provide the tree and lighting up the rest of Reydon have been raised by the Reydon Lights Committee.
