Reading Quest: Where Will Reading Take You This Summer?

Reading Quest is an exciting opportunity to get the whole family involved in reading and making memories this summer! The challenge is open to children of all ages and all reading abilities.

Every week during the summer holidays, our staff and volunteers will be on hand to chat to children about the activities completed each week and the exciting books they’ve read. While visiting the Library, children can collect a weekly reward and a new stack of books to enjoy at home.

Visit your local library to collect your free map and start your quest!

Terrible Tudor Tales

Thursday, 1st August, 11am and 2pm

Join Dave Tonge, the Yarnsmith of Norwich, for this family event bringing history to life.

Come one, come all, gather close and hear tell the tales of terrible Tudors that made folk laugh lustily long ago. Stories that were shared anywhere and everywhere that people gathered.

Free event, no need to book.

Animal-themed Crafts for Kids

Every Tuesday of the Summer Holidays, 11am and 2pm @ Southwold Library

â€Ē 6th August – Insects! Jumping grasshoppers, fuzzy spider decorations, insect bookmarks and more!

â€Ē 13th August – Birds! Bird wands, wooden swans, rocking bird and more!

â€Ē 20th August – Butterflies! Butterfly planes, butterfly bracelets, butterfly magnets and more!

â€Ē 27th August – Sloths! Sloth keyrings, sloth doorhangers, paper-plate sloths and more!

Free crafts provided by the Friends of Southwold Library. No booking required.

Terrific Train Fun! Trainmaster Suffolk

Family Fun for Three Million Steps

Friday, 9th August, 11am–3pm @ Southwold Boating Lake

Join us for some family fun, including face painting, dance class and performances, family yoga, stories and crafts with Southwold Library, game stalls, tombola, plus a group three-million cm challenge and a special guest.

Three-million cm challenge – run, skip, dribble a football over 50 metres as many times as you can to help us cover e million cm = 30km.

Coding Club: Beginners aged 7–11

Wednesday, 14th, 21st and 28th August, 11am-12.30pm

Learn to code with Steve using BBC Micro:bits. Three-week, free course for kids new to coding.

Seaside Stories and Crafts with Southwold Library

Friday, 16th August, 11am and 2pm @ Alfred Corry Lifeboat Museum

Make a wooden seagull, a seaside suncatcher, a fuzzy art magnet and much more!

Tales of the Southwold Cannons

Wednesday, 21st August, 2pm

Pointing their muzzles out to sea are the town’s most famous feature. Every child who visits Southwold has to sit on one to be photographed. What is the story of the cannons? Why are they in Southwold? Where did they come from? How old are they? Did they fire at an enemy? Are there any more cannons in Southwold? Find the answers and lots more from Peter Kent, author of Tales of the Southwold Cannons.

Children’s author and illustrator Peter Kent will be reading from his book, plus cannon crafts and colouring.

Mini-Monsters Creepy-Crawly Roadshow

Thursday, 29th August, 11am and 2pm @ Stella Peskett Millennium Hall

Come and meet the mini-monsters: mini-beasts, -reptiles and -invertebrates. Find out fascinating facts about the animals before getting up close and personal with each species.

Blyth Poets ‘The Isle is Full of Voices’

First Friday of every month.

A poetry group meeting at Southwold Library. All welcome to read or just listen. We invite contributions of original work or well-loved poems. Refreshment break in The Canteen.

Crochet Club

Every Wednesday, 2.15–4pm

ÂĢ2 each.

A friendly group for all abilities of crocheter. Barbara will be on hand to teach beginners, add to your crochet skills or troubleshoot problems. Or just bring along your latest project and crochet together. Bring your own equipment or Barbara can supply at a price.

Lego Club!

Sundays, 12.15–1pm

Open to kids (and adults) of all ages. This summer, we’re building: Crazy Creatures.

Every Thursday, 10am–12noon @ Southwold Library

Do you have a learning disability/autism? Do you need some support, advice or information?

Come along to one of our walk-in advice and guidance sessions. There is no need to book an appointment. Our advisors will talk to you about the support you need.

We can provide advice, guidance and information on housing, employment, benefits, training, money, travel, safety, health, bills/letters and social.
